#Ruger police six gs83 nycpd .38 special series#
All the 3' were special contract models vs the 2.75' six series Rugers. The interstate transfer back and forth took two weeks so I spent the time researching these NYCPD revolvers. I think the LCR will make an interesting alternative to the J-Frame Smith, but agree that a pricepoint about $100 cheaper would make it much more competitive.we'll have to see what they end up stickering for on the shelves at our local gun stores. I spotted this pretty rare special contract Ruger Speed Six and couldn't resist buying it mostly because of rarity and condition. The Ruger is 1.5 oz lighter, and still has MSRP $36 cheaper. In the late eighties a New York City uniformed officer would have been carrying either the Model 10, Model 64, or the Ruger Police Six. The S&W Model 10 Heavy Barrrel in 38 special was authorized. 357 Magnum, a more apples to apple comparison is the 442/642 Smith. The NYPD never authorized the S&W Model 13 for officers. Realizing that MSRP doesn't represent actual cost, the LCR weighs only 2/10 ounce more than the ultra-light M&P340 with and MSRP $370 cheaper than the Smith. If the Smith's are going for around $400 and have a higher retail than the Ruger, I'm inclined to think the Ruger is gonna be a little less pricey. The Ruger has a cheaper Retail price than the Smith.
